Still Life in Oils

Join artist Gill Burbidge to explore oil painting techniques to create a still life.

5 to 7pm over four consecutive Tuesdays:

Suitable for beginners or anyone seeking to develop their practice.

Explore the process of learning to "see" and applying oil painting techniques in still life painting from direct observation.
• Using (water mixable) oil paints, learn the properties, and mixing, handling, and applying of the paints.
• Learn the skills of still life set up, observation, proportion, tone, and colour. Beginning with greyscale (tonal values) and simple still life setup, establish the foundations for seeing form, shadow and light.

Devices we will use: shadow box, lighting, mirror, mobile phone, squinting, 'scaffolding'.
